Officially, voiceover has been a part of my life since 2017. Unofficially, voiceover has been my dream since the early 90s. In the 90s, I started going to a radio and TV broadcasting school and worked at a contemporary Christian radio station called KRDS. Life gets in the way at times and I pursued my education; I received a Bachelor's in English and an MBA. In 2017, I auditioned for a play called Dial M for Murder. I didn't get the part, but the producer invited me to help with the props. God bless anyone that works on theatrical productions because that's a TON of work. I had one vocal part in that play and enjoyed it so much the producer put me in touch with Sean Pratt. Sean coached me for a year in audiobook narration. He's recorded over one thousand audiobooks and you've probably heard some.
After doing my first audiobook, I attempted to do it full time, but life sometimes has it's own plans. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020. Even during cancer treatment in 2021, I narrated three audiobooks. Cancer really changes your life and priorities; thus, I began working at a full time job that helps pay for my bills AND my dreams. Cancer wasn't done, it returned in a new cancer diagnosis in 2025. During this most recent treatment, I started training my body to ride 25 miles in the Armed Forces Cycling Classic (I'm an Army veteran). Five days after each chemo treatment (there were four), I would go out and ride my bike the best that I could with the energy I had. I never thought I would do it, but I got through that challenge.
I do not focus on audiobooks, but I have narrated some e-learning for a couple of pharmaceutical companies. E-Learning is my favorite type of voiceover and would love to do more and include commercial voiceover. For commercial voiceover, I trained with Terry Berland and Carrie Faverty. I regularly audition for commercial or e-Learning on Bodalgo.com. Voiceover keeps me going and I love the creative aspect. Just remember, dreams may be placed on the back burner for a time, but don't let that stop you from pursuing them. I've survived cancer twice and I still want to do voiceover. In October 2025, I participated in the best bike ride ever: Bellringer. You can definitely have more than one dream. Mine are doing commercial voiceover, cycling, and raising money for cancer research.
Some dreams just don't leave.
Thanks for reading.
